The Location
Most famous for its world class racehorse breeding, training and racing, the Curragh is actually a wide grassy plain that stretches across approximately 5000 acres at the heart of County Kildare. From here all the great activities of the County are within easy reach for residents of Hawthorn Wood.

There are many golf courses and three national racecourses and even Mondello Park for a different kind of race.

The setting here is very special - the wonderful manors, country estates, stud farms with their splendid array of sleek purebreds, and mature, cultivated, lush landscapes.

Watersports from sailing and windsurfing to canoeing and even waterskiing are available on the River Liffey and nearby Blessington Lakes.

Kildare town’s attractions also include major national heritage sites such as the Irish National Stud, Japanese Gardens and St. Fiachra’s Garden.
